In a meeting with Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh, Ian Hatton briefly presented the survey results and updated the status of implementation of offshore wind and hydrogen projects in Binh Thuan province with a total capacity of 5.4 GW, total investment of over 17 billion USD. Enterprize Energy is completing the application for Investment Policy Decision and will submit it to the competent authorities of Vietnam after the National Power Development Plan VIII is approved.
Deputy Minister Khanh highly appreciated Enterprize Energy's efforts in the process of surveying, project preparation and coordination with Vietnamese companies in the past time and suggested that Enterprize Energy continue to work with MOIT’s relevant agencies to prepare necessary documents according to Vietnam's regulations. The Ministry of Industry and Trade will create favorable conditions for the development of offshore wind power and hydrogen projects, thereby contributing to ensuring the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 according to Vietnam's commitments at COP26.
Speaking at a discussion session at the Forum, as the only developer licensed by the Government of Vietnam to survey offshore wind power development in Vietnam and based on survey results collected from From 2019 to now, Ian Hatton has affirmed that Vietnam will be the center of offshore wind power development in the region and in the world in the future. Enterprize Energy, through its experience in developing offshore wind power projects in the UK and Taiwan, will actively coordinate with Vietnamese authorities to develop mechanisms and policies to attract investment in this field.
On the sidelines of the forum, Ian Hatton worked with Chairman of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group Hoang Quoc Vuong and partners regarding development cooperation opportunities in Vietnam. Enterprize Energy has cooperation agreements with member units of PVN to develop Hai Long project (Taiwan) as well as during survey and development of Thang Long Wind project (Vietnam). The parties commit to further strengthen this cooperation in the future.
